Free Virtual Worlds

Free virtual worlds are online social communities where users can have a great time and spend little or no cash. The most popular of these virtual worlds is Second Life. Virtual worlds are communities where people can meet to chat, share common interests, sell their wares, create, learn, play, have fun and do business. They are becoming extremely popular and have been called the next wave of the internet revolution.

When creating the free virtual world Second Life Linden Lab purposely left most of the world blank. This allowed users to turn the virtual space into anything they wanted it to be which means it encouraged creativity. Users can create anything in Second Life and they own their creations helping to build and enhance this virtual world experience. Second Life is now a vibrant community where all are welcome and can find something to keep them entertained.

What’s the Point?

Many people who have never visited a virtual world do not understand how important they have become to the internet culture and the way the world works. For example, many companies do business online. They may communicate through email or send presentations across the world. The availability of the internet has made conducting business with people around the globe much easier than ever before.

But some companies have taken the internet a step further when it comes to utilizing it for operating their business. IBM has set up an IBM island in Second Life.

IBM encourages employees to go onto the virtual world and network with other employees. They hold online meetings in this virtual space and have built a huge theater where company-wide presentations are given. The company estimates it has about 4,000 employees who regularly use Second Life to conduct business for the company.

Working on a virtual world is not much different to working in the real one: your avatar (goes to a virtual office) where he/she meets working mates (other avatars) and all can work together in different projects.

You do not have to be a part of big business to enjoy a virtual account. Second Lifers sign on daily to have a great time.
