Second life is an interactive online virtual world developed by Linden Lab. A free membership is available along with a paid option, the premium membership. Once you have created an account you will be able to sign on and enter the virtual world. There are several Real Life organizations present in Second Life including: Educational institutions, business corporations, nonprofit organizations, government agencies & departments and military organizations. Interactions

There are over 25,000 Second Life members online at any one time. The large amount of active users ensures you will always have the opportunity to meet new people in world. You can meet others who share your passions, are going through the same trials and tribulations you are experiencing, and people who just want to have fun, work or a mix of both.

Many Second Life members join or form a group based on their interests. You can search for Second Life groups by entering keywords in the search function of the second life viewer/interface. Before joining groups spend time exploring the different options out there. You can join a maximum of 42 groups in Second Life, choose only the ones you are really interested in.

Money, Money, Monnn-ee

Second Life is one interactive online world that has developed its own economy. Members can earn money, buy and sell goods, or buy and sell land. The Linden Dollar is the basic currency for the site. Linden dollars (L$) are exchangeable for US dollars (US$).

One of the highest rated purchases in Second Life is land. You must have a paid membership to become a land owner. You will have the option to purchase a 512 sqm parcel of land, without having to pay any monthly land fees (Tier fees), upon joining with a paid membership. More land subject to tier fees can be purchased for Linden Dollars. Land that you own can be re-sold or developed. Some users even rent their land to other members.

Linden Dollars will also allow you to purchase the “extras” in this interactive virtual world. Need a new outfit? Stop by a clothing store and buy one with your Linden dollars. Want to rent a DVD after work? There are several DVD rental places on Second Life streets. You will find many useful ways to spend your money on entertainment and more in Second Life.
