Online Community Groups
Online community groups make Second Life a vibrant virtual environment. Hundreds of groups can be found in Second Life and there is one or more that can match your interests. Are you looking for a support group? A singles club? Do you love Role Playing Games? Are you a shopaholic? Whatever your passion, Second Life has a group for you.
Finding the Right Group
There are several different ways to find the right group for you. First, Second Life offers an easy search feature where you can enter a topic and find groups and other resources that focus on what you are interested in. This is probably the easiest way for new users to find online groups and makes it easy to get information about the groups you are most likely to take an interest in.
More experienced users, or new users who have made virtual friends, can ask for suggestions from other members. You will have no trouble soliciting advice on online community groups from Second Life members. They can give you information about the coolest groups they belong to and tell you of ones they have heard about.
In fact, you will find Second Life members to be helpful and anxious to assist you as you learn how to maneuver the virtual world.
Once you have found a few groups that interest you, it’s time to visit. Stop by each group to meet the members, talk with the group’s founder and discuss their event’s agenda. The first group you encounter may or may not be the right one for you. Do not become discouraged. Your perfect group is out there.
What’s Your Passion?
Every Second Life user has a passion. Many of these users have turned their passions into successful online groups. One of the most popular types of groups is support groups. Disease and disaster survivors, veterans, single parents, teachers, techies, and others can find people who share their interests, their likes, and their dislikes in online community groups.
These groups can also be built around fun. Travel groups, sporting groups, gaming groups, shopping groups and animal lover groups – all of these and more can be found right on the Second Life site.
There is a limit of 42 online groups you can join. But, say Second Life experts, you do not want to get the reputation of a ‘joiner’. Make sure you are a ‘doer’ in every group you join. Get active in group activities and take a leadership role.
If you think about it, being a ‘doer’ is exactly what groups want in the real world.
Second Life online community groups will be incredibly rewarding when you become an active member. You will make friends who will be there to support you and give advice on any topic available.
Just remember, online community groups depend on their members to keep them successful. You should be active, participate, and celebrate with other group members. Offer the best to the second life community!
