Second Life Blog
Second Life (SL) writers and journalists post to their Second Life blog when they want to communicate their thoughts and ideas to the First Life world, simulating what the rest of the First Life online community does...blog posting. Actually, you don't have to be a writer or a journalist to blog to the real world. Any SL citizen can open an account at
blogHUD.
Free and Pro accounts
Free accounts allows your avatar to have his own page and post an in-world blog entry that will show up in the real world on the blogHUD web site for anyone to read. Pro accounts cost L$1,500 (that's 1,500 Linden dollars - the official SL currency) and allow your avatar to post to your real online blog on several real free and paid blog sites like Wordpress.com, Blogger, Typepad, Friendster and more. So the true value of a Second Life blog is that it lets your SL persona communicate with the real world without the use of the SL client. On the surface, this may not seem like that big of a deal. But with the interactivity and social networking that takes place in real life online via blogs, having a Pro account Second Life blog means your avatar could be making friends and business contacts with people who don't know that its a virtual creation. Everything online is virtual However, when you stop to think about it, when people interact online, they can ever really be sure who the other person is unless they physically meet face to face in the real world. People often communicate back and forth for years, collaborate on business projects, buy and sell products and never meet to verify each others identities. So how would anyone know whether or not they're striking up a friendship with a real person instead of a SL avatar? How to tell if it’s a real blog post The location of the SL blog post is always included. It doesn't explicitly say Second Life, but it does reveal the in-world location of the avatar at the time the post was sent. Places like Plush Giga, Lionheart Mohatu and Mystical Mastery won't show up on Google maps when you do a search. But they will show up on the blogHUD website, which clearly displays its connection with Second Life. And the postcard image of the SL location is another big clue. Since SL has a virtual economy that also overlaps into real life, the Second Life blog can be useful for buying and selling virtual land and products.
Shop.blogHUD
is dedicated to posts discussing or advertising virtual creations for sale.
Sale.blogHUD.com
is all about buying and selling virtual land and real estate. Just like in the real world, SL blogging has evolved from personal journaling to full blown ecommerce.
