Second Life Music
Second Life music is one of the best perks available to Second Lifers. Members can listen to great tunes in a bar or nightclub; DJ’s can spin their discs; and artists can croon in the Second Life environment. This virtual world offers access to all kinds of music which is one of its most popular features.
Sing It Loud
The SL music feature is amazing and has attracted a number of people to the virtual world who would not have tried it otherwise.
Musicians can stream their music onto the Second Life website for live and prerecorded concerts and events. A live performance takes place in real time. Many Second Life artists are logged in while their music is streaming and interact with audience members and fans. In this way they get quick feedback on their music. You can find different types of musicians in Second life including: solo singers, instrumental players and groups offering all kinds of music styles: pop, rock, classical, chill-out, dance/house and many more.
To stream either live recorded music you must send the music from your computer to a specified server. The server maps the information and forwards it to a parcel of land in Second Life you have pre-designated. Whoever is on the parcel of land can enjoy your Second Life music. The server can limit the listeners on the parcel (full region) to 50 or 100.
If you are looking for live music you can search for venues on the search page of the Second Live Viewer Interface. Choose the events folder and “live music” in the category drop-down menu. This will bring up a listing or calendar of all upcoming music related events like rock concerts or classical evenings in the park. You can also search the music events in the Second Life website, using the community events page and “live music” category.
Once you have found an event you want to attend you simply click on the event link and you will get the event details including the location link. Click this link and you will be teleported through virtual space to the site. Music venues are located throughout the virtual environment and encompass all types of live music.
Are you a DJ? Do you like to get crazy at dance clubs? DJs and dancers will enjoy the Second Life music available at Second Life bars and clubs. DJs can take requests from other members and create mixes to be played in clubs. Dancers will enjoy the opportunity to dance to the streaming music. As it happens in real life, DJs can use a microphone to help people dance and have fun.
Musicians can even take it a step further and open their own club. Being the sole owner of your own club will allow you total control over your Second Life music. You can spin tunes or perform live in your own venue. Your club can be a private space where only your friends have access or open to the public. Apart from listening to music and dancing, owning a club offers a bunch of other possibilities like selling advertising, selling products/services, organizing contests and games and much more.
Second Life music has expanded the audience for up and coming musicians. They can sell their albums, perform for fans, and let the world know they exist. This is a remarkable opportunity for a new musician who can’t afford to give a “live” concert in the real world.
Be ready to log into your Second Life and enjoy all the musical possibilities available.
