It's no secret that Second Life (SL) has a virtual sex world. These types of 3-D animations are not cheap, though. A "builders kit" that would allow someone to start their own business with the animations can be priced at L$20,000 -- that's twenty thousand Linden dollars, for those readers who are not yet residents of Second Life.

According to Linden Labs' official statements about adult content, regarding the separation of the adult content from the rest of the community, the decision was made to maintain freedom of expression rather than to curtail it. Since Second Life includes such a diverse population, ranging from casual residents to university and corporate staff members, it makes sense that those most interested in the virtual sex world experience aren't likely to be interested in the same activities as people who are attending a virtual class or meeting. This way, everyone has the opportunity to participate in Second Life exactly in the way they prefer.
