Virtual Worlds Review

Virtual Worlds Review is one of the best websites online to get an introductory list of MMOSGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Social Games). The only problem is that the site has not been updated since 2006. Its owner went to work for one of the virtual worlds and did not want to create a conflict of interest by continuing to review other sites.

Broken links

Virtual Worlds Review

Some of the links are outdated. Either their sites have moved or are no longer operating. If you are looking for a particular site and the link is not working, it is worth taking the time to type the site name into a search engine, because many of the sites have just changed their home page or have a new domain name. And it is surprising to find that so many virtual sites are still around and even improved since 2006. The successful sites have grown and adapted to newer technologies, with upgraded graphics and faster load times.

Categories

The nice thing about the Virtual Worlds Review site is that it presents virtual worlds by category, including age group, free access and Mac friendly. Within these categories, some sites appear multiple times, but that’s actually useful. For example, Second Life appears in the ‘Best for Techies’, ‘Best for Broadband’, ‘Mac Access’, ‘Best for Artists’ and ‘Best for 20s – 30s’ categories. ‘There’ appears in ‘Best for Teens’, ‘Best for 20s – 30s’, ‘Best for 40s’, ‘Best for Artists’, and Best for Newbies’ categories.

Descriptions

The website owner did a good job of writing a short description of each site, so it is easy to quickly see the main features of each site. For example, the description for Mokitown reveals that the site is owned by Daimler and teaches kids about traffic safety. That is helpful information if you have a 5-year-old who wants to play online and loves toy cars and trucks. It’s also helpful to know that your child will be learning useful lessons about staying safe around busy roads.

Although dated, Virtual Worlds Review is still a good resource to use as a starting point for finding virtual world sites to visit. By reading a few of the descriptions, you can get a feel for what other people look for when they participate in MMOSGs and MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games). And the fact that these sites have been operational since 2006 is actually a testament to their ongoing popularity and success.
